General-purpose plastics are those
varieties of plastics that are produced in large quantities, are inexpensive,
have a wide range of uses, and have a wide range of influences. These plastics
usually have excellent physical and chemical properties and can be moulded and
processed by various processing methods. The following are some common
general-purpose plastics:
1. Polyethylene (PE): Polyethylene is the
most productive variety in the plastics industry, with excellent low
temperature resistance, electrical insulation and chemical stability. According
to the different densities, polyethylene can be divided into low-density
polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and linear low-density
polyethylene (LLDPE).
2. Polypropylene (PP): Polypropylene is a
thermoplastic with excellent resistance to cooking, corrosion and strength.
Polypropylene is widely used because of its low price, good overall performance
and easy processing.
3. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): PVC is a
plastic obtained through the polymerisation of vinyl chloride, the hardness of
which can be changed by adding plasticisers. hard and soft products made of PVC
have a wide range of uses, such as wires and cables, building materials,
medical equipment.
4. Polystyrene (PS): Polystyrene is a
colourless and transparent thermoplastic with excellent transparency,
processability and decorative properties. Polystyrene is commonly used to make
various packaging materials, containers, toys and so on.
5. Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene
copolymer (ABS): ABS is a thermoplastic polymer structure material with high
strength, good toughness, easy processing and moulding, and it has excellent
comprehensive performance.ABS is widely used in automobiles, electronic and
electrical appliances, instrumentation, textiles and construction and other
industrial fields.
In addition to these common general-purpose
plastics, there are some other varieties of general-purpose plastics, such as
polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polyoxymethylene (POM) and so on. These plastic
varieties have a wide range of applications in their respective fields.
